When we buy a new computer the sales guy will always press you to buy new software of upgrade that packakged with a new PC.

There are excellent free alternatives that you can download. Two of the most popular are:

OpenOffice 2 is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose. Go to openoffice.org to download.

A good antivirus package that is free to download for personal rather than commercial use is AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition aproviding basic antivirus and antispyware protection for Windows. It is free becaues it has limited features, no support and is for private and non-commercial use only. Download it here.
